Flood Relief-2010

What CCP has done? | CCP's Goals | How to contribute?

The Concerned Citizens of Pakistan is a diverse and non-partisan association of individuals, working to establish the rule of law as well as to aid suffering Pakistanis in whichever way we can.

Current floods in Pakistan form the biggest natural calamity to hit any country in the world in the past 100 years. Its scale of devastation is larger than that caused by the Tsunami (2004) and the Pakistan (2005) and Haiti (2010) earthquakes combined. So far the floods have:

  1. Killed over 1600 people. This death toll is expected to rise exponentially if aid is not provided on-time as epidemics carried by floodwater such as cholera, dysentery may set in apart from the looming acute food shortage.
  2. Affected over 20 million people rendering them homeless, damaging their property and livelihood in all 4 provinces of the country. 1 in every 10 Pakistanis is affected by the floods.
  3. Washed away over 760,000 houses.
  4. Caused Pakistan to lose over Rs 250 Billion in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
  5. Caused a loss of billions of dollars in infrastructure as roads, bridges, barrages, transmission, electrical and gas supply lines are washed away along with entire villages and towns.
  6. Damaged over 1.7 million acres of agricultural land in the country and rendering it uncultivable for the next 12 months.

In response, CCP has been working around the clock to respond to the urgent need for relief to the flood affected Pakistanis. Please click the link below to view some pictures of our aid efforts and the devastation caused by the floods.

CCP’s Goals

Short Term

CCP’s immediate aim is to provide temporary shelter and food to the homeless people of all the 4 provinces. Over the next few weeks our efforts would expand to provide the affectees with clothing, utensils and medicines as well.

Long Term

CCP’s aim over the next 12 months is to adopt 3 villages in and around the area of Mardan with a view to completely rehabilitate these 500- 600 families. This would include building of new houses as well as making efforts to reclaim agricultural land.

Our Target

CCP’s target is to raise Rs 100 million in the next 12 months to cover our long term goal of assisting complete rehabilitation of the flood affectees.

Our immediate target is to raise Rs 25 million by December 2010 for emergency aid consisting of food, medicines and clothing for 500 families.

CCP Network

CCP has visited the various flood affected areas to assess the damage and develop contacts to effectively deliver emergency assistance and long term rehabilitation.CCP is working through its own network of members and volunteers to collect funds, accompany relief trucks and distribute goods on ground zero in Mardan and its adjoining areas, Mianwali, D. G Khan, and Layyah.

In Swat, we have renewed our key contacts in the region, including Swat Relief Initiative, which were established in 2009 as part of our very effective campaign to assist Swat IDP's to provide relief work.

In Bhakkar, Multan and D.G. Khan we are working in alliance with the Aurat Foundation, Awami Development Organization and Rural Development Organization

In addition we are working with the Pakistan Army and using their transport mechanism like the C-130 to provide relief in areas not accessible by land.

CCP Supporters

Our corporate alliances have helped us immensely in not only gathering funds but also medicines and food for the flood affectees. We are backed in our efforts by:

  • Ferozsons Laboratories
  • Qarshi Foundation
  • SOS Childrens Village
  • CARE Foundation

How to contribute?

The United Nations has termed Pakistan floods as the biggest natural disaster ever and has urged the world to pool in at least US$ 460 million for immediate relief. The UN has also said that Pakistan will need billions of dollars more to rebuild after floodwaters recede.

It is time for us to do our duty as concerned humans and concerned citizens.

You can contribute to the flood relief efforts by:

  • Adopting a family (7 persons per family) and providing for their food for US$ 100/month
  • Building a house for US $ 2300/house
  • Supporting a relief camp consisting of 250 families and providing food, medicines and a team of doctors for US$ 10,000/week
  • Donating any amount you can, big or small, as every bit counts!
