Press Release of Concerned Citizens Society of Pakistan

January 26th, 2011

Concerned Citizens Society of Pakistan (CCP) condemns the inauguration of the construction of luxury apartments for MNAs by the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Wednesday 19th January 2011, in Islamabad. He stated in his inaugural address that his government is facing economic and not political threat. In these circumstances there is no justification for allocating Rs. 3 billion for construction of these apartments along with other facilities including an underground tunnel. CCP urges members of parliament to unanimously pass a resolution that such wasteful expenditure on new apartments is not required until and unless the economy is stabilized and the needs of average citizens are fulfilled. These include availability of gas, electricity, clean drinking water, and health and educational facilities to citizens throughout Pakistan, as well as provision of jobs for approximately 40 million unemployed youth. Unless the prime minister and the cabinet as well as the parliamentarians reform their life styles and the current mode of misgovernance, our country will remain hostage to terrorism and violence.
